What you will find

In this 16th century house around 1660, Rafael Casanova, the hero of the defence of Barcelona on 11 September 1714, was born.

The son of a family of grain and wool merchants, well-established in Moià, he settled in Barcelona to study law and work at his professional career. From there, as a member of the government of the city, he followed the progress of the War of the Spanish Succession, in which he would play an important part.

Today the house contains an exhibition that shows the keys to the conflict: from the outbreak of an international war to decide the successor to the Spanish throne after the death of Carlos II, who left no heirs, to the fall of the city of Barcelona into the hands of the Bourbon troops, whilst Rafael Casanova was in command of the defence of the city as chief councillor and commander of La Coronela.
